Mr.Sagehorn, lit the candle of Christ in my heart. It will never go out. When my time on Earth is done, I will see Him in Heaven to thank Him. What an amazing teacher He was. 1991 7th grade
Joe Balkie Sneak Out Recess!!! December 3, 2012

Mr. Sagehorn was an amazing person, teacher, and friend. He lived his life with a purpose, and he lived out that purpose to the end witnessing to all about his Lord and Savior. He is an example for all of us.

I too had Mr. Sagehorn for a teacher. I have many fond memories about the time I spent learning in his class. I will always remember those silly records he would play for us. For Example - Be kind to your web footed friends, for a duck may be somebody's mother Smile. I also remember the fun we had playing heads-up 7up, and who could forget the Sneak Out Recess!?!?

The wonderful memories I have about him as a teacher and family friend will be cherished forever. His unique sense of style fit him well. He was a man who cared deeply for others, gave freely, and he was always good for a laugh.

Heaven just got a little quirkier, but a lot more fun!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Joe

Sandy and Al Linn Don Sagehorn - Memories November 25, 2012
We have been a friend of Don and Marilyn's for at least 25 years.  I was at Peace (now Shepherd of the Coast) when they came to teach in the school.  Don was my daughter, Andrea's, third grade teacher and she has shared many memories with me of that time.  We will always remember his colorful wardrobe, his red pants, green pants, plaid pants and various colorful jackets.  He was such a wonderful man and teacher.  I (Sandy) was on the education committee when he was a teacher and principal and I went through accreditation of the school with him.  He was always very honest and he loved his Lord.  That was very evident in everything he did in his life.  He was a great family man.  I saw their son David grow up and I saw Marilyn and Don take care of him when he was very sick and I remember all the stories Marilyn told me about how Don took great care of him when he retired.  I remember the stories she would tell me about when David was hospitalized how Don would witness to others in the waiting rooms with him about his Jesus.  I have been in the choir with him for many many years and he loved music.  He was always trying to recruit new choir members and always was having the directors try out new music for us.  I remember all of the choir dinners at the beginning of the season that we would have at Don and Marilyn's home.  He would always make us welcome and make sure we were all comfortable.   He was a great family man and I saw his children grow up to be wonderful adults with children of their own.  He was a great father and great grandfather.  He loved his grandkids.   We will miss him but know that he is where he wants to be and that he is finally with his son David.   He is at peace.  Our love to Marilyn and the rest of the family.  We saw Marilyn in church today and talked with her and she is an amazing woman as she has such great faith in Jesus that she knows that Don is with Jesus and she doesn't have to worry about him anymore.  Both of them are such a great example of how we should live our lives in Christ.

As many- I was blessed not only to know Mr. Sagehorn, but to have him as a teacher. He was my 3rd grade teacher, and anyone who had him knows that he made 3rd grade very memorible, fun, and a place you looked forward to going to everyday! I remember him for his sneak out recesses as he would take us out and watch us on the black top with his hand at slaute over his eyes and lick his lips making sure we were all having a safe and fun time. I remember his jokes in class, but most of all I remember that on a spelling test you could "trick" him into spelling at least one of your spelling words each week if you raised your hand after he said the word and you said "now how do you spell that again?" He would spell it and then act like you had just tricked him into spelling it like he had no clue. It also put a smile on my face and still does.

Since the Sagehorns and my mom were teachers together our families had a closer friendship that may were not blessed to have. What I remember most about Mr. Sagehorn outside of the classroom in a home setting was his love of family- espically his interaction with his son David. He would lovingly feed him, talk with him and make sure that he knew that he was loved. He showed the love of Christ most to me by the love he showed his family!  I also remember going down the water slide at their pool and swiming with my brothers. We had a great time there!!!
Thanks for the wonderful childhood memories. I will cheerish them always!!!
Love,
Liz (Balkie) Turner
